What we will not do

Most directories run on tactics that hurt the businesses they claim to serve. We do not.

We will not gate your listing

Every brick-and-mortar record store is in the directory for free. Your listing is never hidden, downranked, or held hostage to make you buy ads.

We will not auto-renew without warning

Subscriptions stay active because you keep them active. Cancel any time, in one step, with no phone call required.

We will not sell your data

Advertiser information stays with us. No marketing-list resale, no third-party syndication, no surprise outreach from partners we do not have.

We will not run off-topic ads

Only music-related businesses can buy a slot. The wall stays clean, the audience stays trusting, your ad does not have to compete with cruft.

We will not run intrusive formats

No popups, no autoplay video, no full-page interstitials, no chasing visitors around the page. One clean 300x300 square.

We will not promise category exclusivity

Slots are first come first served. If two shops on the same page both want to advertise, both ads run. Honest from the start.

Questions

Frequently asked

Do I have to pay to be listed in the directory?

No. Every brick-and-mortar record store in the United States is listed for free, and that will never change. Advertising is a separate, optional service. If you only want to be in the directory, submit your shop and we will list it at no cost.

What does an ad slot include?

A 300 by 300 pixel square in the sidebar of a state directory page or article. Sticky on desktop, tablet, and mobile landscape so it stays visible the entire read. On mobile portrait the ad appears below the article content. Direct link to your website with no redirects.

How many slots are available per page?

State directory pages have 3 sidebar slots, sold first come first served on a monthly subscription. Articles have 2 slots, sold as one-time permanent placements. Once an article's two slots are sold, the article is closed to new ads forever.

Can I cancel a monthly subscription at any time?

Yes. Cancel any time, in one step, no phone call required. We do not auto-renew without warning and we do not bury cancellation in a help center. Your slot becomes available to the next person on the waiting list.

Do article ads ever come down?

No. Article ads are a one-time 99 dollar payment for permanent placement on a specific article. We do not bill again, do not require renewal, and the ad stays up for as long as the article exists on the site.

Will you sell my data or send me marketing emails?

No. Advertiser data stays with us. The only emails you will get from us are billing notices and the occasional product update relevant to your placement. No third-party syndication, no surprise lists.

What if a competitor wants the same slot?

Slots are first come first served. If a competing record store buys a slot on the same state page, both ads run side by side. We do not promise category exclusivity.

How do I apply for a slot?

Fill out the application form at the bottom of this page. We will reply within a few business days with available slots and next steps. If your preferred slot is taken we will add you to the waiting list at no cost.

Apply for an ad slot

Tell us about your shop or brand and we will get back to you with available slots and next steps. Slots are first come first served, so do not wait too long.

Apply for an Ad Slot

Think of this as tacking your poster to the wall,  but with a little more order. Ad space on the Record Store Directory is limited to keep things clean and community-focused, so we ask all interested shops and brands to fill out this quick application.

This helps us keep the wall music-focused, make sure your business fits the vibe, and place you in the right slot (or waiting list if spaces are full).

Fill out the form, tell us a bit about your shop or brand, and we’ll get back to you with next steps.

It’s first come, first serve , so don’t wait too long to grab your spot.
